THE NIGHT VISION/EOS 2008 CONFERENCE AND EXHIBITION WILL TAKE PLACE 22 - 23 OCTOBER 2008, AT THE OLYMPIA CONFERENCE CENTRE, LONDON, UK.
THE WORLD'S LARGEST DEDICATED NIGHT VISION AND ELECTRO-OPTICAL SYSTEMS (EOS) EVENT
NIGHT-VISION/EOS 2008
“Beyond the Dawn”
The growing capabilities of Electro-Optical Systems (EOS) – Providing the decisive edge.
Now in its 20th year, this Shephard conference has been expanded to encompass the full range of Electro-Optical Systems (EOS), in recognition of the rapidly growing array of image intensifiers, thermal imagers, and laser systems being used by the military, security services and rescue organizations around the globe.
For some time, mission commanders have enjoyed the freedom to operate during the night. But friendly forces are seeking more, in order to retain the edge in today’s fast-moving and uncertain operational environments.
In order to offer forces the situational awareness required to prosecute their missions successfully 24 hours a day, a growing number of sophisticated EOS are being deployed in active theatres throughout the world. These systems range from stand-alone, un-cooled night vision devices used by the individual operator, to identification and targeting systems on high-flying platforms (manned or unmanned) that are part of a fully integrated command and control structure.
Using a suite of sensors, EOS now extends beyond purely night vision through the (previously) awkward dawn and dusk periods giving forces a genuine 24-hour window of operation. The constraints of range, endurance or the environment are rapidly being mastered. Magnification provided by sophisticated optics and/or remote sensors can overcome considerable distances, giving the operator access to a wide area at the required level of detail. The correct combination and location of sensors can also allow personnel to see inside buildings, through the floor of the aircraft cockpit, or into the sea, and the persistence offered by UVs and micro-sensors offers a real 24/7 capability.
The Shephard EOS conference will bring industry, military commanders and operators together to explore the extension of operations in time and space that modern electro-optical systems can offer the user, and to explore how the associated challenges of this increasingly pervasive capability can be met and the opportunities fully exploited.
