Introduction
Royal Engineers are unique soldiers in their respective services, active all over the world in conflict and in peacetime. From fighting alongside the Combat Arms to purifying water, making maps and building accommodation - Engineers play a vital role in the effectiveness of the armed forces. In peacetime, their skills and resources are used to help civilian population cope and recover from conflict and natural disaster. With an opening address from Brigadier Barry Le Grys, Engineer in Chief, British Army and with a programme developed directly with the support of the Royal Engineers, this is a must attend event for all those with an interest in this field.

Conference Day 1 – Monday 16th November 2009
The conference commences at 13.00 in the Command Wing Auditorium. At the end of the conference on Day 1 there will be a Drinks Reception in the RE Museum. There will also be a VIP Dinner for all attendees, which will be held at the prestigious RE Headquarter Mess, on the evening of 16th November. All delegates are invited but spaces are limited, so please be advised that places are on a first come, first served basis.
Conference Day 2 – Tuesday 17th November 2009
After the Conference finishes on Day 2 after Lunch, there will be an optional guided tour of the workshops where you can see first hand, the Royal Engineers learning their skills. The trade workshops tour will give a snapshot of training in all construction trades to meet the operational requirements of defence from design draughtsman and survey engineers to bricklayers, carpenters, joiners, electricians, fabricators, heating and plumbing engineers. The trades are a vital component of the Royal Engineers’ ability to design, resource, construct and maintain significant expeditionary infrastructure – helping our Armed Forces to Live, Move and Fight.

About the venue
Now the largest residential construction college in Europe, the Royal School of Military Engineering (RSME) delivers trained and motivated military engineers (soldiers, combat engineers and artisans) to meet the operational requirements of Defence. The RSME is in a new Public Private Partnership with Holdfast, a consortium comprising Babcock Defence Services and Carillion.
The Headquarter Mess is the home of the officers of the Corps and its priceless collections of silver and paintings commemorating service 'everywhere' - Ubique. The Command Wing Auditorium is the former Wren-style Chapel and Model Room. The RE Museum is housed in the Ravelin Building, the former 1917 RE Electrical School.
