Airnorth adds second Embraer 170 to fleet

Australia’s Darwin-based Airnorth has taken delivery of a second Embraer 170 during  a ceremony held at the manufacturer’s headquarters in São José dos Campos, Brazil.

The airline was the launch customer of the E-170 in Australia, and is now adding to its fleet. The aircraft will be operated under a lease with Jetscape, Inc, and comes from Jetscape’s firm orders.

The E-170 delivered to Airnorth is configured with 76 seats in a single-class layout. The aeroplane allows the airline to operate fully-loaded direct services in any direction from Darwin, capital of the Northern Territory, to every Australian capital city, as well as Jakarta (Indonesia), Singapore, Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia), Manila (Philippines), among other destinations.

“Customer response to this aircraft, in every single market where we have operated it, has been overwhelming,” said Airnorth’s Chief Executive Officer, Michael Bridge. “The first aircraft has operated over 4,000 flights, since it was commissioned in August 2007.”

Airnorth intends to continue expanding its services into the markets currently served, and to work with industry partners to assess a number of new opportunities. Several of the airline’s corporate clients are also very interested in getting access to the Embraer 170, putting the seal of approval on the Airnorth board’s decision to operate four of these aeroplanes by mid-2010.
