Leading airline gives green light to new generation eco fluids
November 21, 2008
Flybe, Europe's largest regional airline, has just signed a deal with UK specialist supplier Kilfrost to use its new environmentally-sensitive de-icing fluids on its aircraft.
Initial estimates based on previous years' usage suggest that in the first year alone, the move will significantly reduce the airline's carbon footprint .
John Palmer, Flybe's Director of Aircraft Operations comments: "As an airline we champion the motto ‘low cost but not at any cost ‘ and are committed to operating in as green a manner as possible. We have been impressed by this particular Kilfrost de-icing product that, made from a sustainable source, uses 40% less energy to manufacture."
As an airline accepting aviation's responsibility towards the issue of climate change, Flybe launched the industry's groundbreaking eco-labelling scheme last year and has invested $2 billion in new aircraft to create a fleet that will be one of the youngest and most fuel efficient in the world by the end of 2009.
